Meet the Navanauts: Jillian Igarashi, Senior Product Manager

Give us the cliffs notes of your career, pre-Nava.
I started my career in customer service: retail, account management, and sales (Ask me about my door-to-door sales days!). I have always been passionate about helping people, and that led me to helping people through technology when I became a product manager at a Seattle-based startup. A hop, skip, and a jump later, I found myself joining the Nava team.
What made you want to join Nava?
I first heard about Nava from a friend who joined the company earlier, and everything she said told me Nava is a company whose mission and culture would match my passion to help customers. It was an easy decision to join a team that not only believed in its goal but was led by co-founders with impressive track records.
Biggest piece of professional advice?
There are a dozen variations of this adage, but a former manager of mine once quoted me this version: “If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.” He reminded me to constantly challenge myself, to be comfortable being uncomfortable. I’m proud to say I learn something new every day from my Nava peers!
Which is your favorite Nava value?
My favorite value is #createsuperfans. My goal as a product manager is to help craft tools that make a difference in people’s lives and turn them into fans!
How would you spend your perfect day?
My perfect day would need to be 48 hours long, so I could fit in a long hike, a three-hour brunch, shopping, a round of golf, a movie in a theater while eating obscenely buttery popcorn, and an evening of reading on a couch with my partner and cat.
Biggest (non-professional) achievement to date?
In 2016, I trained my way up from couch-to-half-marathon. It was the hardest thing I had ever done ... until I had to restart training to run a half-marathon in 2021, and then that was the hardest thing I had ever done.
What's the strangest or worst job you've ever had?
For a brief and horrible time, I sold cable packages door-to-door in Boston. “Strangest” doesn’t even begin to describe it.
